188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Pulled Into The Final Battle
Post the Crossing of the Return Threshold and before the Master of Two Worlds and Selves, a hell of a lot happens that is rarely given mention. The Final Conflict (a metaphor for this stage) follows a distinct process. Following a final pull (Norman tries to rape David), the hero is pulled into the final battle and the shape shifter is forced to overcome his (or her) period of dissonace. In Straw Dogs (1971) , Charlie shoots Norman.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Post Mastery Of The Two Worlds And Selves
Post the Crossing of the Return Threshold and before the Master of Two Worlds and Selves, a hell of a lot happens that is rarely given mention. The Final Conflict (a metaphor for this stage) follows a distinct process. It is not unusual for a surprise catharsis, post the defeat of the antagonism. In Straw Dogs (1971), Tom's son attacks again, from nowhere. This final catharsis is a metaphor for the antagonism's last gasp (the antagonism is after all the hero's own id).

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Shape Shifter And Post Mastery For The Two Worlds
Post the Crossing of the Return Threshold and before the Master of Two Worlds and Selves, a hell of a lot happens that is rarely given mention. The Final Conflict (a metaphor for this stage) follows a distinct process. It is post the mastery of the two worlds and two selves that the shape shifter (especially one who has been engaged in the Period of Dissonance for an inordinately long time) often demonstrates allegiance. In Straw Dogs (1971), Amy is slow to get the gun, but she does get it.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Female Infatuation
Female infatuation, the hallmark of the romantic challenge, is simply a metaphor for the hero's new self. His infatuation with her is actually an infatuation with his own destiny and dharma. In Spartacus (1960), Spartacus' infatuation with himself is actually an infatuation with what he can become - she is the pull (or push) that takes him there.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Road of Trials 3
The third part of the Road of Trials is the conquering of the Outer Challenge. The Outer Challenge is a consequence of the Inner Challenge and it is the first of the four core challenges to be vanquished. In An Officer and a Gentleman (1983), Foley takes Zach outside, punishes him and makes him face up to his lack of care and respect for his fellow officers.

188 Stage Hero's Journey - Monomyth - Committment And Lack Of
Post the Physical Separation and before the Trials, a stage of Lack of Commitment is not unusual. In Bonnie and Clyde (1967), in the bedroom: Clyde gives Bonnie the option of getting out now. In Thelma and Louise (1991), both heroines sit it out in a hotel while they wait for Thelma to make a decision.
