188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Pulled Into The Final Battle

Post the Crossing of the Return Threshold and before the Master of Two Worlds and Selves, a hell of a lot happens that is rarely given mention. The Final Conflict (a metaphor for this stage) follows a distinct process. Following a final pull (Norman tries to rape David), the hero is pulled into the final battle and the shape shifter is forced to overcome his (or her) period of dissonace. In Straw Dogs (1971) , Charlie shoots Norman.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Post Mastery Of The Two Worlds And Selves

Post the Crossing of the Return Threshold and before the Master of Two Worlds and Selves, a hell of a lot happens that is rarely given mention. The Final Conflict (a metaphor for this stage) follows a distinct process. It is not unusual for a surprise catharsis, post the defeat of the antagonism. In Straw Dogs (1971), Tom's son attacks again, from nowhere. This final catharsis is a metaphor for the antagonism's last gasp (the antagonism is after all the hero's own id).

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Shape Shifter And Post Mastery For The Two Worlds

Post the Crossing of the Return Threshold and before the Master of Two Worlds and Selves, a hell of a lot happens that is rarely given mention. The Final Conflict (a metaphor for this stage) follows a distinct process. It is post the mastery of the two worlds and two selves that the shape shifter (especially one who has been engaged in the Period of Dissonance for an inordinately long time) often demonstrates allegiance. In Straw Dogs (1971), Amy is slow to get the gun, but she does get it.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Female Infatuation

Female infatuation, the hallmark of the romantic challenge, is simply a metaphor for the hero's new self. His infatuation with her is actually an infatuation with his own destiny and dharma. In Spartacus (1960), Spartacus' infatuation with himself is actually an infatuation with what he can become - she is the pull (or push) that takes him there.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Every Hero Passes Through Unbearbale Antagonism

Every hero undergoes an unbearable antagonism. This is a force that pushes the hero to draw out inner strength and persuades the hero to finally vanquish the antagonism. Even antiheroes experience this. In Scarface (1983), Tony refuses to kill children.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Road of Trials 3

The third part of the Road of Trials is the conquering of the Outer Challenge. The Outer Challenge is a consequence of the Inner Challenge and it is the first of the four core challenges to be vanquished. In An Officer and a Gentleman (1983), Foley takes Zach outside, punishes him and makes him face up to his lack of care and respect for his fellow officers.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Significance of Apotheosis

The Apotheosis is simply the result of conquering the romantic challenge. Once one has been set free of limitations, one feels a release. That is the aopotheosis. It is the realisation, the actualisation of the hero.

Hero's Journey and Monomyth (188 stages) - Supernatural Aid

The Supernatural Aid will often invite the Hero into his Private World, which has characteristics that include:

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth) - Hero's Private World

Obstacles to the Hero are somehow overcome and the Heralds are invited into the Hero's Private World. This is a special place where the Hero spends much time alone, where he (or she) is safe and at home.

188 Stage Hero's Journey - Monomyth - Committment And Lack Of

Post the Physical Separation and before the Trials, a stage of Lack of Commitment is not unusual. In Bonnie and Clyde (1967), in the bedroom: Clyde gives Bonnie the option of getting out now. In Thelma and Louise (1991), both heroines sit it out in a hotel while they wait for Thelma to make a decision.

188 Stage Hero's Journey - Monomyth - Final Conflict - Final Battle

Post the Crossing of the Return Threshold and before the Master of Two Worlds and Selves, a hell of a lot happens that is rarely given mention.

188 Stage Hero's Journey - Monomyth - Aspects of the Ordinary Self

Loyalty. It is not unusual to find that the Hero is the sort of person that inspires loyalty or not (antihero). This explains why others may or may not gravitate around him (or her). In Gladiator (2000)-

188 Stage Hero's Journey - Monomyth - Further Aspects Of The Romantic Challenge

The conquest of the Romantic Challenge is the Hero's Reward (post the Rebirth through Death). This is what is commonly referred to as the Mystical Marriage.

188 Stage Hero's Journey - Monomyth - Dissolution of the Self - Innate Capabilities

In the second Trial and Transformation, the Hero proves he is worthy for the New World and the New Self. The Hero is not like other men and this demonstrates it.

188 Stage Hero's Journey - Monomyth - Demonstrate Devolution

This is a total expression of the Hero's Ordinary World and Ordinary Self. It is a benchmark. In Tsotsi (2005), Tsotsi is part of a criminal gang.
