German Memories - Victory of Roman Forces over Germanic Teutons & Cimbri

In 103 BC, the Cimbri and their Proto-Germanic allies, the Teutons, had turned towards Spain where they pillaged far and wide. During this time Roman general Gaius Marius had the time to prepare and in 102 BC, he was ready to meet the Teutons and the Ambrones at the Rh?ne River. These two tribes intended to go into Italy through the western passes, while the Cimbri and the Tigurines were to take the northern route across the Rhine and later across the Tyrolian Alps.

German Memories - Roman Expansion by Julius Caesar & Emperor Augustus into Ancient France & Germania

Julius Caesar invoked the threat of Germanic attacks as one justification for his annexation of Gaul ( modern France ) to Rome. As Rome expanded to the Rhine and Danube rivers, it incorporated many Celtic societies into the Empire. The Germanic tribal homelands to the north and east emerged collectively in the records as Germania. The peoples of the Germania were sometimes at war with Rome, but also engaged in complex and long-term trade relations, military alliances, and cultural exchanges with Rome as well. The initial purpose of the Roman campaigns was to protect Trans-Alpine Gaul by controlling the area between the Rhine and the Elbe.

German Memories in Asia - German Colonies in Asia and the Pacific

The European colonial era Jaffna reminded one of how the European powers established their colonial empires in Asia, Africa and Americas with a long and hazardous past. Germany also colonised many of the Asian and African countries with other Europian nations after the development of imperialism and the awareness of having colonies around the world. The colonialist thinking was that colonies were ideal to support the economy in the motherland. So, densely populated China came into view as a potential market. Thinkers like Max Weber demanded an active colonial policy from the German government. In particular the opening of China was made a question of life or death, because it was thought to be the most important non-European market in the world.

German Memories- Franco-Prussian War and Otto von Bismarck's Diplomacy

Prussia's victory over Austria increased tensions with France. The French Emperor, Napoleon III, feared that a powerful Prussia would upset the balance of power in Europe. Bismarck, at the same time, sought war with France; he believed that if the German states perceived France as the aggressor, they would unite behind the King of Prussia. The Franco-Prussian War in 1870 was a great success for Prussia. The German army, commanded by Moltke, won victory after victory. The French were defeated in every battle. The remainder of the war featured very careful German operations and massive confusion on the part of the French.

The Spartans & King Leonidas

The Spartans fighting specialty was as a single impenetrable unit, forward thrusting, one way & notably elite assault unit. They were documented as a fearsome & formidable army, made stronger by their laws for which forbids them to neither retreat nor surrender. Suicidal tendency is prevalent within such a school of thought.

Unmanned Vehicles and Future Rules of Engagement

The idea of robots sent to annihilate the enemy is troubling for many to contemplate, especially after watching some of the Hollywood Movies of the last couple decades. Some ask what if they mal-function, yet could it really be any worse than human soldiers who in the past have raped and pillaged? It is a fact of war, in past periods it was accepted, the spoils of war, today it is not acceptable, but it happens. Will robots left to their own recognizance be any less problematic with their rules of engagement?

Infrared Heat Signature Reduction Technologies

Infrared sensors are being used more and more in the current modern battle space and thus as the enemy also uses these technologies we are looking at ways to reduce the infrared heat signatures of our friendly forces. But people or humans are not the only things that give off heat. So do vehicles, aircraft and vessels too.

Small Nation-State Robotic Unmanned Vehicles Tactics

When a smaller nation-state is defending itself against another small nation-state then 15,000 robotic unmanned vehicles are a very viable war toy. Thus any allied nation would be wise to own tens of thousands of them, but any rogue nation-state, challenging the Free-World would simply add fodder and targets to their own demise. Any nation attacking a small rogue nation which did not have NATO support could use robotic unmanned vehicles extremely affectively without maximum air-support and have an excellent chance for a full and quick victory.

Some Realities of War

The reality is that the defending rogue nation-state does not have a chance against a couple of aircraft carriers and a fully-integrated net-centric battlespace using all the modern day technology. It is not a fair fight. Of course war is not really fair anyway.

The Divided Command in the Pacific Theatre During WWII w

The war in Iraq and several Pacific War battles have much in common: unnecessary; tragic waste of lives; incompetence at all levels, civilian and military; stay the course, no matter.

Iranian Leaders Deny Nuclear Weapons Equipment was Undeclared to UN Inspectors

Why did the Iranian's deny that they have received nuclear weapons making equipment now that the entire world knows that they have? A well respected gentleman named Charles Martel, has proof that Iran's denial is in question. Saddam said he had nuclear weapons that he did not actually have and Iran says it doesn't have nuclear weapons equipment that it does have? Moral of the story is whatever they say; the opposite is actually true.

Military Sexual Trauma

Women within our military not only face rapes as well as sexual assaults while proudly serving our nation but they face being raped by our system which does not protect them.

The Draft - Will It Come Back After a Nearly 35-Year Hiatus?

Some college students across the nation may have friends, relatives, and/or acquaintances serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as a result of our nation's ongoing War on Terror. A surprising 2004 USA Today poll shows that about 40 percent of all military families support a reestablishment of conscription because they are currently unhappy with their loved ones being redeployed overseas when the overall supply of our nation's troops is overwhelmingly stretched to the international limit.

Song from World War II Still Fits in Today's Time of War

An old 1940s-era song keeps finding its way into my head on patriotic holidays such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day and the Fourth of July. Although it's talking about a daddy who is serving his country during World War II, it has a timeless message as long as we have times of war. We miss our soldiers; our children need their mommies and daddies; and we seek God's loving care and protection.
